relax, retune, rebalance

reduce pain and tension, relieve stress

Reflexology

Reflexology can be a wonderfully relaxing experience where you can take time out from everyday pressures.

Picture yourself reclining whilst having your feet pressed and massaged, gently squeezing all the tension out of your feet. If you are on your feet all day, this will feel great!

Reflexology is an ancient system of massage and pressure points used to relieve tension and balance the body to restore it to health. It is a holistic therapy which offers a means of treating the whole body, and of treating the body as a whole.

Reflexology, as practiced today, was developed by Eunice Ingham in the mid twentieth century. However, the idea of massaging the feet, treating the body holistically and dividing the body into zones or lines of energy dates back thousands of years.

Reflexology uses the feet as a map of the whole body. Each part of the body has a reflex area on the feet. By applying gentle pressure to certain parts of the feet, the whole body can be ‘re-tuned’ and brought back into balance.

Reflexology can help to relieve stress and tension and activate the body’s self-healing. It can help you to relax which in turn may improve mood and sleep - also to improve circulation, eliminate toxins, balance hormones and release tensions.

Hand reflexology may be used in some situations. The hands are mapped in the same way as the feet with reflexes for each part of the body.

What to expect from a session…

Reflexology is always carried out on bare feet and unlike other types of manipulation or massage very little oil/cream is used. Most treatment sessions last 45 minutes (an hour on the first session so that we can discuss your health) and you remain fully clothed apart from removing your socks and shoes.

I will begin massaging your feet before applying gentle pressure to the reflex points with either thumb or fingers or a wooden tool. Areas corresponding to parts of the body which may be out of balance can sometimes feel tender. The sensitivity of the feet varies from person to person but the treatment should not be uncomfortable.
